Welcome to the test lab

Because of the many inherent process variables, as well as, the uniqueness of your particular production conditions, selecting the proper screening equipment for the application requires prudent evaluation. Over the years, SMICO has conducted hundreds of tests and substantiated the results on most types of materials in all kinds of production conditions.

Test Lab Procedures

In our Materials Testing Lab, we will be determining the appropriate equipment to the job. We will be evaluating the machine type and size needed, the machine settings, and the optimum screening media.

Standard Performance Guarantee Statement

Performance Statements are available. These recommendation statements are made strictly to the performance range of SMICO equipment alone and are based directly on the findings of the test conducted and pertain to the production parameters and material samples provided by the customer. SMICO Manufacturing Company, Inc. makes these statements exclusively under normal screening definitions, where uniform and steady state screening conditions exist. SMICO and its equipment have no control over the nature of the "in-feed" rate and make no further performance guarantees outside the test parameters provided and defined by the customer. SMICO Manufacturing Company, Inc. reserves the right to limit these statements.

About SMICO Vibratory

SMICO or Southwest Milling and Industrial Company history rivals that of any other American screener manufacturer for respect and longevity. Our history can be traced all the way back to 1937 and beyond. During the early days, the company was called Productive Equipment and was located in Chicago, IL.

SMICO History:

SMICO or Southwest Milling and Industrial Company history rivals that of any other American screener manufacturer for respect and longevity. Our history can be traced all the way back to 1937 and beyond. During the early days, the company was called Productive Equipment and was located in Chicago, IL. Productive Equipment was the leader in screening and classification equipment for the many milling and feed operations that surrounded the booming city in those days.

In 1937, Frank Shidler founded SMICO and began marketing his own screener designs to the milling industries surrounding his home. Just 20 years later in 1957, Frank merged SMICO with Productive Equipment and moved both companies, under the SMICO name, to the current production location in Oklahoma City.

While under Mr. Shidler’s leadership, SMICO expanded rapidly and soon developed screening designs for a variety of other applications, such as the SELECTRO used in concrete, foundry, sand and gravel and other applications. SELECTRO units were known for their durability and long service life and soon became the standard in both the foundry and concrete industries.

SMICO notoriety grew so rapidly that SMICO was contacted to introduce the round screener to the American market. The round screener was developed in England, by WM Barton LTD. SMICO had the first rights in the US to distribute the screener, but that relationship was short-lived because Mr. Shidler believed as we do today, that the traditional, rectangular design was superior in every way to the circular designs on the market. SMICO still offers circular screeners but only as a supplement to the traditional design.

During the oil boom of the late 70’s and mid 80’s SMICO added a new product to its line of screeners specifically for the oil industry – the shale shaker. SMICO manufactured shale shakers for some of the biggest names in oil including Bariod and Swaco. Today, SMICO has relationships with some of the most well known mud engineers in the country to provide clients with best shaker designs possible.

Since Mr. Shidler’s passing, the original name, drawings and dedication to quality have survived and have been going strong under the leadership of Randall Stoner. Today, the company is a privately held interest. Our current line includes quality machinery such as: conveyors, separators, feeders, shakers, sifters as well as our flagship product, vibrating screeners ranging in sizes from 12”x2’ to 8'x24’. SMICO machines serve a variety of industries including, mining and aggregate production, construction, food and pharmaceutical production, oil exploration and refining, recycling and the glass/plastic industries to name just a few.

In addition, SMICO is the leader in custom screening technology. In today’s market, there is not a single other major screener manufacturer willing to customize their machines to the level that SMICO does for its clients. Over the last 70 years SMICO has made a name for itself as being customer focused while being obsessed with quality and today SMICO continues to offer the highest level of support and response to our client’s needs while retaining our signature, American-Made quality.

SMICO has recently acquired one of its major competitors. You can read more about Symons Screens below.

About Symons Screens:

Original Symons ScreenerStarted by Ory and Ed Symons in 1933 the Symons Brothers Screen Company designed and developed many different types of screening equipment. Symons Screen Company has been in the screen manufacturing business for over 70 years, building high quality equipment for the asphalt, aggregate, mining and industrial markets. Before the screening company the Symons Brothers were very successful in designing and manufacturing the first aggregate cone crushers called the Symons Cone Crusher which was later bought by the Nordberg Manufacturing Company of Milwaukee, WI.

The Symons Brothers started the screen company in North Hollywood, California, where they operated for over 66 years designing and building thousands of screens and shipping the world wide. In 1999 Symons was purchased by XMS Equipment Company and relocated to Tempe, Arizona. Symons was moved one more time in 2009 to its current home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after being purchased by SMICO Manufacturing. SMICO acquired Symons Screens to add a well-known aggregate presence to its already full line of vibratory screeners, feeders and conveyors. SMICO currently manufacturers new parts and screens for Symons Screens and can repair and support all Symons Screens and some Symons designed Nordberg Screens.
